The pillow features the following script:
- In the 1860’s, small bulldogs, which had become common in England, were taken to France by English lacemakers who had been displaced by the Industrial Revolution. As these dogs became more popular, breeders send over the dogs they considered to be too small, or with ears that stood up, which was considered a fault. These dogs became known as the Buoledogue Francais.
- At the Westminster Dog Show in 1897, the judge chose only winners with “rose” ears that folded over at the tip, as this was the standard for English Bulldogs. A group of women formed the French Bulldog Club of America and created the breed standard which stated that the erect bat ear was the correct type.
- Frenchies (as they are often called) are very sweet and male an excellent companion. They rarely bark, and when they do it’s usually to point out that they need attention from their family.
